Underground Sounds: Henry Morris breaks boundaries with "Jawbreaker."
Henry Morris, formerly known as Playyard, is a college student who writes spectacular heartfelt music. This indie artist rakes in around 350k monthly listeners on Spotify and only holds 1 album to his name. With his album being a collection of his 7 previously released singles and 9 new releases, it turns out to be an amazing debut album. Jawbreaker sits at a total of 16 songs and runs for a total of 54 minutes and was released June 21, 2024. Henry Morris is seemingly heavily influenced by artists like Lana Del Ray, Coldplay, and Cigarettes After Sex. No other introduction is needed after this video:
Jawbreaker, tear-jerker, heart-crusher, whatever you want to call this album, it encapsulates you and forces you to dig into deep memories and feelings that you might not want to. After listening to Jawbreaker I immediately went to his profile for more music but was shocked to find that he only had one. Songs like "He Could Never Love You," "Forever Young," and "Dirty Magazine" will entrace you and you can't help but relisten. Dirty Magazine is a beautiful song with a saddening guitar backing Henry's seemingly sad vocals. With Morris' intentionality in his instrumental and vocals, I can't help but listen to these songs over and over again as they bring back some sense of lost love and the pain that comes with it. In his live renditions of his singles, he has a mic and a guitar and somehow performs something so amazing and gut-wrenching. Henry Morris has something that is hard to hear in some music in this day in age, pain and soul. He pours everything in him into his songs and you can audibly hear it. I am deeply looking forward to his future projects.
